Namita Sharma was born in Nairobi, Kenya and emigrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan where she grew up. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.S. Natural Resources) and the Detroit College of Law (J.D.). Namita has practiced law in Kalamazoo since 1997, first working as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Bureau of Southwestern Michigan and then in private practice. Namita is now in private practice with Brueggemann & Sharma, P.C. Her law practice focuses primarily on the areas of divorce and family law, and she is also trained as a mediator. She has been involved in a variety of community service and volunteer activities including serving on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Strategic Planning Committee, serving on the KC Ready 4s board, as past president of the Kalamazoo County Trial Lawyers Association, as a member of the board of directors for the Kalamazoo County Bar Association, and as president of the Arcadia School Parent Association, and later as President of the Kalamazoo Central Parent Association. She also recently served on the YWCA’s CEO Search Committee. Namita and her husband, Rex Brueggemann, live in Kalamazoo with their two sons, Raj and Nikhil.
